StoneLake Farm is owned by Melinda Stone and Francis Lake. Melinda
is a filmmaker and professor and Francis is an artist, adventurer
and gardener. Both are dedicated to sharing their farm with folk
interested in off the grid and sustainable living practices.
StoneLake
Farm is located in eastern Humboldt County 6 miles from the Van
Duzen River and Highway 36, 45 miles east of Highway 101 and approximately
300 miles north of San Francisco. The closest outpost for food and
building supplies is Dinsmore, approximately 30 minutes by car.
Summer
temperatures range from the mid 70s to the upper 90s, with May and
June being the cooler months and August being the hottest. Evenings
generally cool to between 50-60 degrees.
Fall
is a transitional time with temperatures ranging from 50 - 80 degrees.
Rain is likely beginning in October and lasting through April. Snow
can fall as early as late October. Apple and pear harvest is around
mid October.
Winter
is cold and snow is abundant. Winter is a perfect time for those
interested in tranquil and adventurous cross-country skiing. The
Octagon is a cozy winter retreat complete with wood stove. For an
extra fee we can provide meals for those interested in a luxurious
yet rustic winter wonderland.
Springtime
is remarkable for its wildflower blooms. Expect cool evenings and
pleasant days.
We
are adjacent to the Six Rivers National Forest, which means plenty
of hiking and biking for those interested.
There
is a wonderfully large and deep swimming hole just seven miles away
on the Van Duzen River, complete with high rocks perfect for high
diving.
There
is wonderful white water rafting and kayaking all around us. The
Octagon is a great place to stay while on your way to any of the
number of world class white water runs on the Salmon, Trinity, Van
Duzen, Klamath and Mad Rivers.
